Curriculum

A Stimulating Curriculum

The child is central to our curriculum.  Our aim is to nurture all our pupil’s positive attitudes to learning that will enable them to become independent learners.  Through this they will be able to adapt to new ideas and methods,  using a wide range of skills taught. We believe in making full use of the children’s interests and provide rich first hand experiences that will act as a basis to develop their skills. In preparing for the 21st Century, today’s learner needs to be able to adapt and refine skills taught to a variety of contexts and situations.  As a school we are embracing the principles of the new curriculum that will be statutory from January 2022 for all Year 3 pupils.  This focuses on the four core purposes.  ICT is a skill that will be given the same priority as Literacy and Numeracy. These three strands will be used across all areas of the curriculum.  Traditional subject areas will be replaced by six areas of learning:   Expressive Arts, Health and Wellbeing, Humanities, Language and Communication, Mathematics and Numeracy, Science and Technology

The school has wi-fi capability.  This has enabled the school to develop its technology capacity to use a range of approaches in the use of ICT skills.  There is an ICT suite that can be accessed by all classes.  However there is also the opportunity to take ICT into the classroom, using a range of hardware, including laptops, I pads, and other mobile devices.  This approach enables all learners to develop a range of skills that are needed for the 21stcentury.

At the heart of all we do, is the core belief that "Every Child Matters".  Through all the changes that will take place in the months and years to come, this value will underpin everything we do.
